40 Years a Claret
So the 2008/09 season as finished, And what a finish!!! What as been not only a very successful season but also a very entertaining one as well. Owen Coyle has put together a good squad and the fact that we have reached the promised land is a great testament to him. So the fixtures for the coming season will inclued Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal & Chelsea and not Scunthorpe, Peterborough & Blackpool... I for one can't wait!! 17th September 1970 is the date i attended Turf Moor for the very first time as a eager nine year old. The occasion, a Football League First Division encounter between the mighty Clarets and the Gunners, BURNLEY v ARSENAL. I don't remember much of the action of that day only the result, a 2-1 win for Arsenal. I then attended the Clarets next home match at Turf Moor this time v WOLVERHAMPTON WANDERERS, and another defeat (something's just don't change) But despite these two setbacks i was hooked. I was a CLARET! Now as The 2007-08 season as ended with the clarets finishing in 13 place, even though i missed most of the season being away for 4 months in Australia & New Zealand i still managed to get to 20 games. On the victory front this as been my worst season ever! I've only seen us win 3 times, in 1976 i only saw us win 2 but only attended 4 all season. My running totals are now as follows at the end of the 2008/09 season:-
