Sun 31st August Ramsbottom 134-3 v
Lowerhouse 133-4
Cloud nine
Rammy seconds won their ninth game
on the bounce on Sunday in a game that almost didn't happen! Due to a lack
of opposition. The Lowerhouse players kit was locked in the dressing rooms
at Lowerhouse. Batting first in a game reduced to 43 overs Lowerhouse
managed 133-4. The Ramsbottom reply was swift, Martin Cropper 50 & Sam Price
48 shared a 103 opening partnership. Rammy secured the points in the 22nd
over, 134-3.

Sun 17th August Ramsbottom 171-6 v
Accrington 141-9
Accy Sent Packing
Another good victory for the seconds, sixth in
a row. This time at the expense of Accrington, another good scalp.
Accrington won the toss after a near 2 hour delay for rain, and invited
Rammy to bat. The game reduced to 35 overs. Steady progress by Ramsbottom
enabled them to post a competitive score of 171-6. Sam Price 34, Hassan
Farooq 47 not out & Rizwan Shahid 29 plus a 6 ball 18 from Andy Dalby. Four
run outs in the Accrington reply still didn't hid the fact that the
Ramsbottom fielding was not at its best. But the bowling of Rizwan Shahid
3-48 &
Matty Lees 2-11 ensured a 10pt win with Accrington finishing 141-9.
Sat 16th August Rishton 169-8 v
Ramsbottom 171-5
Teenagers Star
The teenage brigade had a big say in this
match with Matty Lees, Jonathon Lees, Tom Parton & Hassan Farooq all at
centre stage. First of all it was the bowling of Hassan Farooq with 2-17
from 14 overs including 7 maidens. The Lees brothers also took 2 wickets
each as Rishton were restricted to 169-8. Sam Price anchored the early part
of the reply with 26, but it was a 5th wicket stand of 79 between Matty Lees
55 & Tom Parton 41 not out that steered Ramsbottom in the right direction. A
un-beaten 13 by Alex Lenkowski sealed the win.

Sat 2nd August Colne 79 v Ramsbottom
81-0
Colne beaten
Batting first Colne were in
real trouble at 47-9, but a last wicket stand of 32 gave Rammy a target of
just 79. Three wickets each for Toby McLean, Matty Lees & Hassan Farooq.
Rammy's openers wasted no time in reaching the required runs, just 11 overs
for Martin Cropper 33 & Sam Price 42 to see us to a 10 wicket win.
Sun 27th July Rawtenstall 173 v
Ramsbottom 175-3
Sun keeps Shining
An impressive stint of bowling by Dale Gabriel
6-41 & Matty Lees 3-55 restricted the home side to 173. Ramsbottom's batsmen
then made easy work of their target with Chris Wood 54 not out and Skipper
Robert Read 77 as Rammy won at a canter with 21 overs to spare.
Sun 20th July Church v Ramsbottom
The Good Old Days
When Robert Reads team travelled to Church
they most not have known what to expect. Once again it was a very young
team, one without both Andy Dalby and Rizwan Shahid. But no need to worry
has it all came together superbly. Batting first the Rammy side amassed
233-9, Ross Brown 67, Chris Wood 27, Rob Read 40, Hassan Farooq 21 & a great
knock of 21 not out from Mathew Sutton. The Church reply was like a blast
from last year as Rammy's bowlers got stuck in and dismissed the home side
for just 47. Hassan Farooq the pick with 4-5, Matty Lees 2-17 & Dale
Gabriel 1-4.

Bacup 65-5
Men against boys
Ramsbottom's second XI suffered yet another
embarrassing heavy defeat in what described has the "poorest performance of
the season" at Acre Bottom. Not a single Ramsbottom batsman can be happy has
extras top scored with 17 out of a total of just 63 all out, Ramsbottom
collapsing from 57-5. Bacup reached their target for the loss of 5 wickets.
For the last couple of seasons we have complained that no one was giving us
a game, well the boot is firmly on the other foot at present. For the MVP I
could quite easily have given no points, so those that have got the points
their is definitely no bragging rights.
Sun 6th July East Lancashire 145 v Ramsbottom 129
"Woeful"
In a performance described by Andy Dalby as
"woeful" Ramsbottom lost yet again. Having dismissed East Lancs for 145 with
Rizwan Shahid 3-48, Ross Brown 3-36 & Matty Lees 2-19 a victory looked on
the cards. But yet another poor batting performance let the side down. Only
Rizwan Shahid 38 & Matty Lees 29 made any telling contribution and the game
was lost.

Ramsbottom 159-9 v Todmorden 160-6 Junior Cup
Tuesday night saw the second Xi complete the
first innings of their Semi-final v Todmorden.
But the way it started it looked like it could all be over on the night.
Batting first Rammy struggled to 58-5 with
half the overs gone. But superb knocks by Matty Lees 29 and Michael
Howarth 27 not out, and with a little help
from Tods bowlers with 32 wides and 4 no balls they managed to pull it
around to a respectable 159-9 at close.
With no play on Wednesday night it was fingers crossed for Thursday. A
prompt start was made and Rammy
soon got amongst the Tod Batsmen. But by close the game was left finally
balanced with Tod on 100-5 with 15 overs remaining. Play will resume on Monday night 6.15pm at Acre Bottom.
With Just 15 overs to play and Todmorden requiring 60 runs for victory with
5 wickets in hand this match was finally balanced. Ross Brown continued to
bowl tight and Tod found runs hard to come by, but steadily they did. Going
into the last over having only lost one more wicket Todmorden secured their
place in the final with the eight runs they needed, and Ramsbottom's long
unbeaten run in this competition was over

The Rizwan Shahid Show
In another extraordinary low scoring game at
Acre Bottom, Ramsbottom seconds can applaud one man, Rizwan Shahid! With
Rishton batting first Rizwan ripped through their batting with 8-46 from
12.5 overs as Rishton were sent packing for 125 in just 25.5 overs. Then in
reply things did not look rosy for Ramsbottom, two batsmen back in the
pavilion with no runs on the board. This trend continued and only Sam Price
had shown any resistance with 18. At 58-6 Rizwan Shahid marched to the
crease, and although he lost two more partners he left the field 55 not out
and 12 points to Rammy.
Sunday 22nd June Ramsbottom
209-7 v Haslingden 98
Hassy Blown away
With Robert Read drafted late into the first
XI Andy Dalby took the captain's arm band only to instantly lose the toss
and at a very windy Acre Bottom asked to bat. Gladly this paid off as 209 runs later
with knocks of 25 from Ross Brown, Dale Gabriel 34 & Rizwan Shahid 64 not
out it was the turn of the bowlers to defend the target. And what a job they
did, Andy Dalby & Jack Walmsley had Haslingden struggling at 6-3 early in
the innings. Then 3 batsmen where removed on 48, Hassy struggling with 7
down. It wasn't long before the tail was moped up and Haslingden
had gone with the wind for just 98.
Sunday 15th June Todmorden 129-9 v
Ramsbottom 125
More Dropped Points
In a close encounter at Centre Vale the
Seconds came within a whisker of a win. With Rammy Batting first and
struggling to 125 all out, Chris Wood 25 & Hassan Farooq 21. It was always
going to be hard a tall order to defend. But they almost pulled it off, when
the 9th wicket fell and Todmorden still requiring 12 for victory anything
could happen. Unfortunately Tods last pair stuck to their task and secured
the victory. Jack Walmsley 3-40 the pick of the bowlers, but maybe if extras
had not been the second highest score for Todmorden with 20 it could have
been a different story.
Sunday 8th June Haslingden 229 v
Ramsbottom 192
Seconds Lose Again
Andy Holts 104 not out couldn't secure the
second XI a victory at Bentgate. Chasing 230 for victory Andy Holt simply
ran out of partners. Only 3 other batsmen reaching the teens.
Haslingden having earlier been dismissed for 229, Jack Walmsley 4-48
& Matty Lees 3-32 doing the damage.

wickets kept the run chase in check. Andy Dalby 3-26, Ross Brown 2-29 & Dale
Gabriel 2-24 made sure of this, Enfield falling 46 runs short, 170 all out.
