Sunday 25th July: Rammy In A Hurry
Lancashire League: Todmorden 122 v Ramsbottom 126-2 (won by 8 wkts)
This game was done and dusted by 6 o'clock with 12 points in the bag thank you very much. Ross McMillan today's hero with both bat & ball. In taking 5-47 along with Jonny Fielding's 3 wkts for just 18 runs from 12 overs, the Todmorden total never looked good enough even with a 40 run last wicket stand enabling them to reach a total of 122. Keith Webb departed early for just 4. Alex Bell hit a solid 29 after being promoted to open in place of the out of form Jamie Pilling. Ross McMillan with 57 not out & David Bell 31 not out eased Rammy to victory inside 20 overs to keep our title challenge on track...........(scorecard)

Saturday 24th July: Spin Twins Tie Rocky In Knots
Lancashire League: Ramsbottom 136-6 v Rawtenstall 135 (won by 4 wkts)
Just when it looked like it was going to happen again, Rammy being unable to claim those vital 2 bonus points in the last over, Jonny Fielding knocked back Keith Roscoe's leg stump with the penultimate ball. With sub pro Pakistani Abdur Rehman & skipper Jon Fielding bowling 37.5 overs in tandem claiming 5-39 & 5-50 respectively Rawtenstall were dismissed for 135. The Rammy reply got off to a slow start with both the luckless Jamie Pilling & David Bell both out for ducks with Rammy 11-2. Abdur Rehman joined Keith Webb at the crease and they then shared a 119 run 3rd wicket partnership before Rehman was bowled for 66. Webby carried his bat finishing unbeaten on 52 in a very important victory with the news that the East Lancs game was abandoned, moving us into second spot.....(scorecard)

Sunday 18th July: Rammy Keep Up The Pressure
Lancashire League: Lowerhouse 159-8 v Ramsbottom 178-9 (won by 19 runs)
On a day when it looked like the weather was going to be the only winner, Lowerhouse managed to get the game on and Rammy came out winners. Batting first our opening pair once again failed, Keith Webb 8 & Jamie Pilling 14 leaving us 29-2. This soon became 29-3 when sub pro Ross McMillan went for a duck. The Bell brothers then set about steadying the ship David with a knock of 49 & Alex 36. Skipper Jon Fielding 18 & Mark Dentith 19 ensured we set a good target for a 45 over game 178-9. Jon Fielding once again was the pick of the bowlers with 4-51 bowling out one end, 22 overs. Michael Haslam was his usual economical self claiming 1-22 from 9 overs, Ross McMillan 1-38 also from 9 overs while Ross Brown took a bit of stick but claimed 2 wkts for 42 from just 5 overs. Lowerhouse though managing to hold out and deny Rammy 2 valuable bonus points, finishing on 159-8.. .........(scorecard)

Sunday 11th July: Points Collection Continues Has Faf Goes Out in Style
Lancashire League: Enfield 195 v Ramsbottom 244-8 (won by 49 runs)
So it was back to the pursuit of the league title after Friday's cup success. In front of a sparse crowd at Dill Hall Lane, on winning the toss Ramsbottom once again elected to bat, and despite an early wobble with Keith Webb (4) & Jamie Pilling (3) both out the middle order steadied the ship. Pro Faf du Plessis on is farewell appearance notched another half century before getting run out on 51. He and David Bell (21) had pushed the total on 84. Jon Fielding (64) & Alex Bell (51) shared a century partnership before Fielding was adjudged LBW. A late flurry from Andy Caunce (27) pushed the total up to 244-8 at the close of the innings. Michael Haslam (2-50) & Andy Hakin (1-27) set about the Enfield openers. And with most of the Enfield batsmen getting into double figures and Pro Adam Bracewell (65) looking set, It was the turn of Faf du Plessis with 6-65 to secure the much needed 12 pts.......(scorecard)

Friday 9th July: Triumph at Church
20/20 Final: Church 97-8 v Ramsbottom 100-4 (won by 6 wkts)

20/20 success for Jon Fielding's team brings the second piece of silverware to Acre Bottom. In front of a massive crowd at Church's West End Ground this game never really lived up to its billing. Or am i just being harsh after the thrills and spills of the last 7 days at Acre Bottom. On electing to bat Church soon found the going hard, has first Faf du Plessis & Andy Hakin pegged down the Church batsmen. Shaky claimed 2 wkts and Faf one. Ross Brown & Jack Walmsley kept the screw on and at the halfway stage Church were 37-3. They were a little more productive towards the end, but a burst of 3 wkts in 3 balls, 2 for Faf & one for Fieldo ensured we were chasing a target of less than a hundred. Church closed on 97-8. The Rammy reply got off to a solid start but for a wobble on 14 when both David & Alex Bell were both out. But this only brought skipper Jon Fielding to the crease to join Professional Faf du Plessis. Then with a partnership of 45 before du Plessis was caught for 23 put the tie almost beyond doubt. Robert Read (6) was next in and he kept his end safe while he and the skipper put on another 31. The target was reached in the penultimate over has the rain that had threatened all night finally arrived. Jon Fielding finishing unbeaten on 65.............(scorecard)

Sunday 4th July: Late Night Drama at Acre Bottom
Worsley Cup: Ramsbottom 249-9 v Burnley 247-9 (won by 2 runs)
With the darkness creeping in, it was a credit to both teams & umpires to make sure this game finished. Innings of 111 by Faf du Plessis, 95 by Jonny Fielding & a magnificent 175 by Burnley pro Farhaan Behardien & 5 victims for Chris Burton Burnley's wicketkeeper. All ensured one of the all time classic Worsley Cup encounters. With 496 runs and 18 wickets, in the end it came down to a 2 run margin in favour of Rammy in a game that finished at 9:42pm!!!.

Right on queue the rain came and delayed the start, but once we got going it looked almost over for Rammy. Keith Webb, Jamie Pilling, & both David & Alex Bell's were back in the Pavilion, the Ramsbottom total 8. Skipper Jonny Fielding & pro Faf du Plessis then set about repairing the damage. When Jonny Fielding departed for 95 the Ramsbottom totalFrancois du Plessis was a more respectful 199-5. And it was this record breaking 5th wicket stand of 191 with Faf du Plessis who scored 111 runs that enabled Rammy to set what looked a distant dream of a total of 249-9.

Burnley in reply lost Qasim Ali (0) & Vishal Tripathi (17) early. But all this did was bring the Burnley pro Farheen Behardien to the crease from where he took charge of the innings. He shared a 43 run third wicket partnership with Daniel Pickup who contributed  the 3. The pro and Chris Burton (who had taken 5 victims behind the wicket) turned the game Burnley's way. When Burton was out for 22 with 33 overs remaining, Burnley were halfway to there target. When Behardien was joined by Graham Lalor the pro took command! Lalor scored a single in the 36th over and his next scoring shot was a four on the last ball of the 48th over! In between Behardien notched up 75 more runs has he steered Burnley to the finishing line. In the penultimate over he hit du Plessis for two consecutive sixes before miss timing a third attempt that went straight up and was caught by du Plessis himself. Burnley now needing 9 to win from 8 balls in ever darkening circumstances.  Capstick scrambled a single and Lalor took 3.

The final over commenced just after 9:30pm. And only 4 runs were required for a Burnley win has a tie would've given the game to our visitors. Andy Hakin was charged with the final over.   Dot ball, dot ball, dot ball, then two singles leaving 2 for victory off the last ball. Shakey fired it in and it went through to Andy Caunce and at 9:42pm Ramsbottom had claimed a dramatic victory in a game all those there will remember for a very long time........(scorecard)

Sat 3rd July: Rammy let 2 bonus points slip through there fingers
Lancashire League: Ramsbottom 145-4 v Bacup 145-9 (won by 6 wkts)
In a game that very much lacked the excitement of the night before, we registered a comfortable win. The only downside being the failure to capture the 2 extra points with a dropped catch off the last ball of the innings. The Bacup innings meandered along at just over 2 an over for the best part, but wickets were hard to come by. Michael Haslam kept up his usual tidy bowling conceding just 17 runs from his 13 overs with 2 wickets. Jonny Fielding claimed his usual 5 for. Andy Hakin & du Plessis with one each restricting Bacup to 144-9. Rammy secured the win with almost 20 overs to spare. David Bell top scoring with an unbeaten 53, Keith Webb fell just short of his half century *(thanks Brian!) on 48. Pro Faf du Plessis (22) has 10 valuable points were secured.
*(
Just has Keith was on 48, Brian Fielding said get ready for a collection. Keith was out that over)

Friday 2nd July: Now that's what I call ENTERTAINMENT!!!
20/20 Semi-final: Ramsbottom 172-5 v Nelson 163 (won by 9 runs)
What a game of cricket! Ramsbottom & Nelson take a bow. Faf du Plessis what a catch & Tom Lord what an over!! This 20/20 had everything, with Ramsbottom batting first, pro Faf du Plessis (60) & David Bell (64) helped Rammy to 112 before Faf miss timed one and was caught on the rather short mid wicket boundary. David Bell soon followed and the run rate dropped slightly. Rob Read came to the wicket and picked up the tempo with an unbeaten 28 and Rammy closed on 172-5. I overheard someone in the crowd describe it as a "competitive" total. The Nelson innings got off to a good start run wise, but they were steadily losing wickets and at the halfway stage were 80-4. The tie was slowly turning Rammy's way. Then all hell broke lose in the shape of Tom Lord the Nelson batsman. With six overs to go and requiring 55 to win, Tom Lord took a liking to skipper Jonny Fielding's 3rd over. 5 sixes later and 30 runs from the over Nelson were now firmly in the box seat requiring just 25 now from 5 overs. Step up Faf du Plessis, with Jack Walmsley (4-31) bowling well from the Football ground end, Faf placed himself at long-on in front of the old scorebox. Tom Lord not needing to go big, did just that. He picked the longest boundary in the Lancashire League, and went for it. And all credit to him, he would have succeeded but for a magnificent catch by Faf du Plessis, he leapt like a salmon, arcing backwards to pluck the ball out of the sky has it hurtled towards the boundary for six more! With Lord out for 68 Rammy started to tighten the screw once more. Nelson losing there last 3 wickets for just 2 runs leaving Rammy victors and a trip to Church next Friday for the final to look forward to......

Sun 27th June: 12 Valuable points to stay in contention
Lancashire League: Ramsbottom 169-4 v Church 166 (won by 6 wkts)
On a day that the top two picked up maximum points it was imperative that we did also. At one stage this looked unlikely with Church 129-3 with just 9 overs to go. But up stepped skipper Jonny Fielding with 5-48 to reach his half century of wicks for the season. And Pro Faf du Plessis with 3-24 to claim the vital 2 bonus pts with a Alex Bell catch off the penultimate ball, Church 166 all out. The Ramsbottom top order then played their part with Keith Webb 35, Jamie Pilling 32, Faf du Plessis 47 & David Bell 35 ensuring the vital win. Rammy now lying 3rd in the table 12 pts behind the leaders from up the valley....(scorecard)

Friday 25th June: Faf's The Way To Do It
20/20: Haslingden 159-4 v Ramsbottom 160-3
Francois du PlessisFrom ball one when Faf du Plessis removed Haslingden skipper Steve Dearden this game had the Rammy pro on fire. A bowling spell of 1-12 from his 4 overs is superb in 20/20 cricket. Then with a target of 159-4 to chase Faf set about the Haslingden attack. And in a measured 20/20 innings of 112 not out. And aided by Rob Reads 19 not out, he finished the game by hitting the Haslingden professional Phil Hayes for six to secure Rammy's Semi-final spot and a home tie with Nelson............(scorecard)

Sun 20th June: Bouncebackability
Lancashire League: Colne 176 v Ramsbottom 258-5 (won by 82 runs)
Ramsbottom got back to winning ways today. A superb innings from pro Faf du Plessis of 133 not out the backbone of the Rammy total. David Bell & Jon Fielding both hit 36 has Rammy posted 258-5. Then with Colne 18-3 early on they seemed to shut up shop and crawled to 143-4 when once again the wickets started to tumble. Jon Fielding 4-71 & Michael Haslam 4-34 helping the Rammy cause. Andy Caunce also helped himself to 4 victims behind the stumps, 3 catches 7 a stumping. And Rammy kept themselves on Haslingden & East Lancs coat tails.....(scorecard)

Sat 19th June: Abject Batting Display Hands Rivals Victory
Lancashire League: Ramsbottom 125 v Haslingden 203-9 (lost by 78 runs)
On a good batting track Rammy toiled to remove the Haslingden batsmen. Michael Haslam & Andy Hakin bowled well early on for little reward. Michael Haslam (3-60) taking the only 2 wickets to fall in the first half of the innings. It wasn't until the 30th over, Jon Fielding's ninth that the returning Chris Read was removed for 46 with Hassy 98-3. Wickets then came at regular intervals With the skipper taking 6-45. But it was a tale of woe at the other end with pro Faf du Plessis conceding 25 from just 2 overs & Ross Brown 36 from 6 with no breakthrough. In the last over Fieldo had what looked like a good catch by Andy Caunce turned down denying Rammy the 2 bonus pts. Hassy completing their innings 203-9, a very gettable target for Rammy's Batsmen. But things didn't quite go to plan. The two former Rammy men got stuck in and with the help of some abject batting Rammy were soon in trouble at 68-6. Rammy at this stage were well on course run rate wise, so some of the shot selection was baffling. Rammy all out for 125 with 16.3 overs remaining. Andy Caunce top scoring with 29, Chris Read taking 6-50 to give Haslingden the edge in the title race...(scorecard)

Sun 13th June: Weather has first success of season
Lancashire League: Ramsbottom 135-7 v Haslingden DNB (match abandoned)
Trusting the dodgy gray skies before the match, Rammy elected to bat and were instantly put onto the back foot, struggling at 37-3. Faf Du Plessis (10) already back in the pavilion. Jon Fielding (33) & David Bell 33 not out pulled the score around, but by this time we were already playing dodge the showers with the umpires seemingly unable to be consistent in when they should or should not be playing. After losing 18 overs we reached tea 135-7. But continuing rain made sure we didn't return. And some gamesmanship made sure we hung around a little longer than necessary.

Friday 11th June: Six Hit Fieldo Smashes Bacup!
20/20: Ramsbottom 214-6 v Bacup 72 (won by 142 runs)

Skipper Jon Fielding went six hit wild tonight! In an innings of 89 not out he hit 7 sixes & 7 fours to help Rammy to an impressive 214-6. Bacup's reply was halted almost before it got chance to start, 20-6 after 5 overs. Finally all out for 72. Two Wickets each for Andy Hakin, Ross Brown & 15 year old debutant Charlie Hamilton 2-15 from his 4 overs.

Sun 6th June: Bad day at the Turf has Burnley Triumph
Lancashire League: Burnley 174-9 v Ramsbottom 141 (lost by 33 runs)
After a delayed start the game was reduced to 39 overs a side. On being asked to bat first Burnley reached 174-9, Jon Fielding 5-68 from 19 overs & Ross Brown 4-44 from 8 shared the wickets. Keith Webb continued with the bat were he left of yesterday scoring 44. But Rammy struggled to keep up the run rate, 31 from pro Faf du Plessis the only other telling score has the tail failed to wag. On a bright note, Haslingden also lost thus giving East Lancs the opportunity to claim top spot with help from former Rammy pro Brenton Parchment capturing 8 wkts.........(scorecard)

Sat 5th June: Webby Earns Rammy Semi-final Spot
Worsley Cup: Enfield 258 v Ramsbottom 265-9 (won by 7 runs)
Keith Webb struck a magnificent century to set up this Worsley cup win. in an innings of 125 Webby conserved his energy by scoring 84 in boundaries! Ably assisted by pro Faf du Plessis (21) back from injury, David Bell (25) & Jon Fielding (31) in Rammy's total of 265-9. Enfield then set about overhauling this with Bracewell (78), Afzal (53) & Wrigley (47). Some good bowling by Jon Fielding, Michael Haslam & Jack Walmsley kept a lid on the Enfield reply late on, But  the conceding of 37 extras was a worry with Enfield falling just 8 runs short of victory.  The semi final draw paired us with Burnley at Acre Bottom on Sunday 4th July.

Andy Caunce had a hand in all 3 Edenfield wickets to fall.

Lancs KO Cup: Ramsbottom 167 v Bamford Fieldhouse 166 (won by 1 run)
In a dramatic last over Rammy clinched what look like an unlikely win. With Ramsbottom batting first posted only an average looking total of 167 all out.
Andy Holt top scoring with 49 ably assisted by Jamie Pilling (24) & Jon Fielding (35). Bamford's reply got off to a standing start with Toby McLean claiming the wicket of Marshall first over. Then followed a string of wickets but runs where still flowing. With the last pair at the wicket Bamford required just 7 to win from 4 overs. Jamie Pilling went for 1, then Andy Hakin went for 4 leaving 2 to win from the last over. Jamie Pilling then bowled 4 dot balls, on the fith they

         Andy Holt

Lancashire League: Ramsbottom 188-4 v Rishton 187-8 (won by 6 wkts)
With a steady innings Rishton posted 187-8 for Ramsbottom to chase. The Ramsbottom reply was measured if not spectacular. Keith Webb (22) & Jamie Pilling laid a solid foundation and once Ross McMillan had joined Jamie Pilling at the crease a Rammy win was always on the cards. Jamie Pilling's innings of 65 included a good slice of luck but he stuck to his task has Rammy edged towards the winning post. The win was secured with just 2 balls to spare when Jon Fielding & Ross McMillan who finished unbeaten on 82 scrambled a quick leg bye...........scorecard

Sat 22nd May: Superb Victory, But At What Cost?
Lancashire League: Haslingden 191-9 v Ramsbottom 268-4 (won by 77 runs)
Report by Nigel Stockley: Ramsbottom joined Haslingden at the top of the table after securing a 77 run win over their title rivals at Bentgate. Ramsbottom's vital victory may ultimately come at a high price as their new stand-in professional Francois du Plessis suffered a hip injury whilst batting which led to him leaving the field during the Haslingden innings. The visitors made an impressive start with Keith Webb again looking in fine form in making 41 before seeing his stumps spread eagled by Steve Dearden. Jamie Pilling was more watchful in making 30 during which he suffered a knee injury which saw

David Bell          Ramsbottom having to field two sub fielders, one of which was Cricket Chairman Andy Dalby. After the openers had been parted at 70, new professional du Plessis came to the crease on a baking hot day. Although clearly restricted by his injury, the South African top scored with 83 with nine fours and three sixes, finishing his innings with a runner. In trying to increase the tempo he tried one big hit too many with Mohsin Imtiaz taking an excellent running catch in the deep. David Bell hit nine fours in making a fine unbeaten 69 and skipper Jon Fielding threw the bat at the end of the innings to make an unbeaten 23 as the visitors piled up 268-4. Haslingden's reply began in style as professional Phil Hayes pulled Michael Haslam's first ball for six. Runs flowed freely in the opening overs but when Hayes tried to repeat the dose he could only chip the ball to Andy Holt who took a comfortable catch at mid off. Home skipper Graham Knowles was next to go lbw to his opposite number Fielding after making 9. Jack Walmsley's loosener accounted for Chris Read (6) but Dearden (65) and Lee Ingham (26) gave the home supporters some hope with a 4th wicket stand of 70. Haslam ended Dearden's innings and Fielding had Ingham caught by David Bell as wickets began to tumble. Fielding finished with 4-88, bowling through the innings and Haslam took 3-54. Haslingden managed to deny their rivals the bonus points with Jack Taylor finishing unbeaten on 32 with Jack Sudworth for company as Haslingden finished on 191-9.......(Scorecard)

Lancashire League: Rawtenstall 180 v Ramsbottom 128 (lost by 52 runs)

Batting first Rawtenstall were bowled out for 180 with Ross Brown taking up the mantle from missing skipper Jon fielding with 4-51. But the Ramsbottom reply was stopped in its tracks by Rawtenstall's veterans Keith Roscoe & Andrew Payne who used the deteriorating track to good use. With only Keith Webb's opening 30  & a late 32 from Andy Hakin it was a struggle through out, Rammy all out with 17 overs wasted.................(scorecard)
