Sunday 7th September, the LAST game of the season and Ramsbottom and Enfield

Sat 6th September
Ramsbottom v East Lancashire Lancashire League
Match Abandoned
It's the final Saturday of the season and the sun
is beating down from a blue sky! Perfect for watching
cricket. Just one small problem, yesterdays downpours had left the ground
underwater and the only viable sport would have been rowing!
Sun 31st August
Lowerhouse v Ramsbottom 6-0 Lancashire League
Match Abandoned
Sat 30th August Church
123 v Ramsbottom 197-7 Lancashire League
Webby in run spree
With the Ramsbottom innings on 55-5 Keith Webb
strode to the crease, and when he arrived back in the dressing room he had
94 undefeated runs to his name. And that helped the team score to reach
197-7, Andy Holt 17 & Ross Brown 16 not out the other main contributors.
Church got off to a solid start, but once Shane Harwood caught & bowled
opener Alec Holt for 51 with Church on 74-2. From this point wickets fell at
regular intervals with Shane Harwood 4-61 and youngster Ross Brown 4-39 with
Richard Hevingham collecting 4 victims behind sticks.
Sun 24th August
Ramsbottom 79 v Accrington 80-5 Lancashire League
Duck Fest
"Ramsbottom won the toss and decided to bat"
is the statement on the scorecard! Looking at the rest of that
scorecard, I have to disagree. No fewer than five batsmen scored ducks, two
just 1 and another 0 not out.
Thankfully pro Shane Harwood was on hand with the assistance of Andy
Holt and Richard Hevingham to drag Ramsbottom from the embarrassment of
being 10-5 to close on 79 all out. Shane scored 41 with Andy Holt 23
and Richard Hevingham 10. The Accrington reply took just 20 overs, in which
time Shane Harwood managed
to remove 5 Accrington batsmen and earn Rammy a point! Accrington 80-5.
Sat 23rd August
Nelson 145 v Ramsbottom 147-4 Lancashire League
Harwood in a hurry
Ramsbottom pro Shane Harwood started this
game as though he wanted to be home by tea! In a opening spell of
bowling he removed the first 4 Nelson batsmen with just 15 runs on the
board. After this Nelson steadied the ship
until youngsters Ross Brown with 2-36 & Jack Walmsley 1-20 removed the
middle order. Michael Haslam then got
in on the act, removing the tail and finishing with 3-15 from his 10.4
overs. Nelson all out for 145. After losing
Richard Rothwell early for 2, Pro Shane Harwood 34 & Phil Hayes 64 steered
Rammy in the right direction, Keith
Webb 15 not out & Andy Holt 9 not out secured the maximum 12 points.
Sun 17th August Accrington 217-9 v Ramsbottom
215-7 Lancashire League
Narrow Defeat
This was a game that had many twists to it.
After a good start by the Ramsbottom batsmen, Phil Hayes 40,
pro Shane Harwood 45 and David Bell 64. Their was a mid-innings mini
collapse from 99-2 to 103-5, but with
David Bell & Richard Hevingham (19) putting on 54 for the 6th wicket and
when David Bell was dismissed, Toby
McLean added another 23 to push the score to a respectable 215-7. Accrington
then lost early wickets 26-3 and it
looked promising for the Rammy bowlers. But Graham Lloyd stuck around with
an innings of 87 not out to ease
the home side home with 3 balls to spare and just one wicket. Shane Harwood
with 5-75 & Richard Hevingham
3 victims behind the sticks.
Sat 16th August Ramsbottom 208-9 v
Rishton 102-4 Lancashire League
Won on run rate
On a day that included the public resignation
of scorer Vic Isaacs during the tea interval, Rammy managed to get back to
winning ways. After being invited to bat Ramsbottom posted a target of 208-9
with some steady runs by the early order. Phil Hayes passed 500 runs for the
season with his knock of 18. Chris Read top scored with 68, ably assisted by
Shane Harwood 21, David Bell 16 & Keith Webb 34. But the tail failed to wag
as we lost 4 wickets for just 5 runs. The Rishton reply got off to a shaky
start with Shane Harwood removing both openers with just 15 on the board.
But this brought the Rishton pro Saeed Anwar to the crease, he was
steadily pushing Rishton along and closer to the required run rate
when the rain came and ended proceedings for the day. Rishton were left
stranded on 102-4 from 25 overs, 26 runs short of the required rate.
Sun 10th August Rawtenstall 164 v
Ramsbottom 119-8 Lancashire League
Rocky do the double
Yet another feeble bating display by the
Ramsbottom batsmen earns yet another defeat from a very winnable
position at tea. With the bowlers doing their job (albeit a little slowly,
another point deducted) Rawtenstall were dismissed for just 164. Shane
Harwood earned is wage with 5-37, Toby McLean was very expensive in his
spell, shipping 76 runs for his 3 wickets from 14 overs. Jack Walmsley &
Michael Haslam also had a wicket each. So to the run chase, Phil Hayes
failed with just 7, but we can't rely on him every game. Pro Shane Harwood
top scored with 46 followed by Richard Hevingham 14 not out and Richard
Rothwell 10with all other batsmen in single
figures. Rawtenstall tried their best to help with 20 extras, but even
though we only needed 3 an over we fell well short on 119-8 chasing a
reduced target of 147 from 37 overs.
Sat 2nd August Ramsbottom 225-8 v Colne
141-8 Lancashire League
Ramsbottom won on run rate
Batting first Rammy lost
wickets at regular intervals, the difference today was each one was followed
by steady run scoring. Phil Hayes 37, Richard Rothwell 34, Shane Harwood 42,
Keith Webb 26, Andy Holt 24 & Chris Read 19 contributed to a telling target
of 225-8. Then solid bowling by Pro Shane Harwood 2-38, Michael Haslam 3-38
& Jack Walmsley 2-25 made sure Colne were never in contention even after 12
overs were lost to rain and their target reduced to 185. The Colne innings
petered out at 141-5.
Sun 27th July Ramsbottom 135 v
Rawtenstall 253-4 Lancashire League
Rocky leave Rammy on the ropes
If this was a boxing match then the referee
would have called a halt well before the end. Electing to take first
knock Rawtenstall eased their way to 253-4 on a glorious day for cricket.
But it was a different story after the
break with Ramsbottom struggling to 135 all out. David Bell with 49 & Andy
Holt 32 the only Rammy batsmen
with something to write home about. This defeat leaves Rammy in 6th place 36
points behind leaders Accy.
Sun 20th July Ramsbottom 176-9 v Church
150-9
Lancashire League
Church Tail Frustrates Rammy
Phil Hayes once again laid the foundations for
the Ramsbottom innings with a solid 40 from 74 balls. Their was a bit of a
wobble at the other end with runs hard to come by. The tail did a great job
in pushing the total up to a defendable target 176-9. Andy Holt 12, Richard
Hevingham 16 & unbeaten knocks of 19 from Martin Cropper & 11from Jack
Walmsley. Ramsbottom's bowlers then got stuck into the Church batsmen and
soon had them 77-7, but once more the tail enders frustrated the home side.
First a 55 run partnership and then a last wicket stand of 16 helped save
the 2 bonus pts has Church finished on 150-9. Pro Shane Harwood, amazingly
making his home debut took 4-44 to add to his 26 with the bat. Michael
Haslam had 2-43 and Toby Mclean who had to leave the field with an injury
2-11. Richard Hevingham also had a good day behind the sticks with 3 catches
and a stumping. Rammy also lost 1 pt for a slow over rate.
Sat
19th July Burnley 55-1 v Ramsbottom 68 Lancashire League
Burnley Won on Run Rate
After waiting over 2 hours for play to start
the Ramsbottom batsmen didn't hang around to long on a wicket that was up to
allsorts of tricks. Only stand in skipper Chris Read with 31 not out made
any contribution, Keith Webb with 10 the only other batsman in double
figures as the Ramsbottom innings ended with just 68 on the board. Now if
the wicket is bad for one side you would expect it to be the same for the
other, but when you know you only need 2 an over its a totally different
ball game. Even another rain break didn't help the Rammy cause and Burnley
reached their reduced target of 55 for the loss of just 1 wicket.
Sunday 13th July Bacup 125-9 v
Ramsbottom 121 Lancashire League
Don't you just love Chris Harris
On what I've heard described as a "terrible
wicket", it was certainly to the liking of former Rammy hero Chris Harris.
Has Ramsbottom were skittled out for a hard earned 121. With Harris helping
himself to 9 Ramsbottom wickets for 23 runs. Three Ramsbottom batsmen got
into the twenty's, Phil Hayes 27, pro Wayne Madsen 28 & Toby Mclean gave the
innings respectability with a knock of 23. It was then the turn of the
Ramsbottom bowlers to love the wicket and have Bacup on the ropes. Michael
Haslam 2-14 off 11, Wayne Madsen 4-29 off 14 and a super spell by Chris
Read, until the last over 3-37 from 20 overs. All this left Bacup requiring
18 to win off the last over with 9 wickets down. Enter Chris Harris who
smashed the last 3 balls all for six to win the match for
Bacup. Well done Harry but next time can you pick someone else to do it
against please.... Haslingden maybe?
Sat 12th July Ramsbottom 123-8 v
Burnley 94 Lancashire League
Well Earned PTS
Rammy's bad injury luck struck again today.
While batting and trying to salvage something from the wreckage
of the disaster of an Ramsbottom innings, skipper Simon Read was injured and
had to be carried from the field.
At this stage we were struggling with 8 wkts down and only 88 runs on the
board. Jack Walmsley joined Michael
Haslam at the crease and after some solid and sensible batting, gave
themselves something to bowl at. Both
batsmen finishing not out 19 & 24 respectfully and the team 123-8. The
Burnley got off to a steady reply, but it
wasn't long before the wickets started to fall. Sub pro Oliver Newby
(Lancashire) had a say with 6 wickets and
Jack Walmsley with a great spell had 2-26 including his first ever
professional victim, clean bowling the Burnley
pro with a yorker! As Burnley were dismissed
for 94.
Sun 6th July Ramsbottom v East
Lancashire Lancashire League
Match abandoned
Sat
5th July Todmorden 242-6 v Ramsbottom 240-7 Worsley Cup
Tod take final spot
Ramsbottom pro Shane Harwood hit a superb
knock of 62, in a 4th wicket stand of 107 with Phil Hayes who top scored
with 84. But it came at a big cost! An hamstring injury while batting
prevented Shane from bowling more than 2 overs, and with Toby Mclean also
side lined with a back injury the task of defending the 240-7 posted by the
Ramsbottom batsmen became all the more difficult. But with Tod 84-4 the game
was in the balance, that is until Mo Bux joined Clayton at the crease for a
71 run 7th wicket partnership that saw the home side to victory with just 5
balls to spare! The fact Rammy's injury hit side managed to hold Tod till
the last over in this exciting Worsley Cup semi-final is all credit to the
lads.
Saturday 28th June Rishton 193-8
v Ramsbottom 198-6 Lancashire League
Rammy defeat champions
A solid innings from David Bell and some hard
hitting by pro Shane Harwood following on from Phil Hayes great start helped
secure the 10 points at Blackburn Rd. Having put Rishton into bat, at first
it looked a bad decision as the Rishton batsmen after a slow start started
to look at ease with the score on 137-2. At this point with skipper Simon
Read & Pro Shane Harwood now bowling in tandem, the breaks where applied.
Harwood in a controlled spell of bowling finished with 3-56 and Simon
Read 4-47. Restricting Rishton to 193-8. Ramsbottom started their reply well
despite the loss of Keith Webb for just 6. Phil Hayes & David Bell took the
innings forward with some super stroke play all around the ground. Phil
Hayes was unlucky to be given out caught behind when on 43. David Bell went
on to score a deserved half century (55) and when pro Shane Harwood hit a
quick fire 42 including two massive sixes, one of which won the game,
hitting the Rishton pro back over his head and out of the ground to secure
the points.
Sunday 22nd June Haslingden 186-8
v Ramsbottom 172 Lancashire League
Narrow defeat at Bentgate
Bowling first in adverse weather conditions
Ramsbottom restricted Haslingden to 186-8 (47 overs) New Pro Shane Harwood
taking 5-46. In reply the Ramsbottom innings suffered the early loss of
Keith Webb, but Phil Hayes 35, David Bell 23, Richard Rothwell 29 and an
excellent knock of 35 from the run starved Martin Cropper pushed Rammy ever
closer to victory. But once Dearden & Bandy got stuck into the tail
including removing Toby McLean, Martin Cropper & Richard Hevingham for the
addition of just 2 runs, Rammy fell just agonisingly 9 runs short.
Friday 20th June Edenfield 99
v Ramsbottom 167-6 20/20
Crop on top
Martin Cropper kick started his season in this
20/20 encounter at Gincroft Lane. Opening the
innings with Phil Hayes he shared a 81 first wicket partnership, Phil Hayes
hitting a quick fire 68 and Martin Cropper a run a ball 30. Richard Rothwell
also contributed with a fine 28 in a total of 167-6. And when Jack Walmsley
removed the Edenfield pro for just 6, the rest was just a precession, two
wickets each for Jack Walmsley, Hassan Farooq, Martin Cropper & new Aussie
professional Shane Harwood on debut just 24 hours after arriving from
Melbourne.
Sunday 15th June Ramsbottom 179 v
Todmorden 107 Lancashire League
A Win made in Edenfield
With a superb spell of bowling by sub pro,
Edenfield's Babar Naeem Todmorden never looked like reaching the target set
earlier by Ramsbottom of 179. Ramsbottom being asked to bat by Todmorden set
of like a house on fire, Phil Hayes with 39 and Naeem 35 shared a first wkt
stand of 80. Simon Read 27 & Keith Webb 29 though the only other Rammy
batsmen into double figures has the tail failed to wag. The Todmorden
innings was basically over when Toby McLean held a magnificent catch to
dismiss the Tod pro for 2. Babar Naeem with 8-32 and skipper Simon Read 2-28
saw to it that Todmorden's tail was just a precession back to the pavilion.
All out for 107.
Saturday 14th June Todmorden
160-8 v Ramsbottom 206-6 Lancashire League
Spider Returns
On a day that had the players leaving the
field so many times we lost count, I'll say 8 rain interruptions but I'm not
sure! We did actually manage to complete a game of cricket. Batting first
Rammy reached a formidable total of 206-6 from just 37 overs after the rain
breaks. With the loss of Lou Vincent the batting order was re-jigged
with Keith Webb returning to opening the innings with Phil Hayes. Webby hit
a solid 36, sub pro Mongia 32, after Hayes was out for 15 gave us the
foundation to post a good target. Chris Read was the star of the innings
with a superb 52 not out from just 47 balls. Chris was supported at the end
by Richard Rothwell 20 not out from just 8 balls. Then it was the turn
of Michael Haslam, returning from his horrific injury, he removed the Tod
top order with super figures of 5-28 has Tod where restricted to 160-8
chasing a revised target of 202.
Friday 13th June Ramsbottom 162-8 v Bacup 164-1 20/20
Harris wins the night
An unbeaten 87 by former Rammy pro Chris
Harris saw Bacup to victory. Set 163 by Rammy with
pro Wayne Madsen 95 not out the home sides bowling was easy picking for
Bacup.
Sunday 8th June Ramsbottom 121-1 v
Haslingden 119 Lancashire League
Hassy sent packing again
On Sunday afternoon
around 4.20pm i Was on the M25 near Heathrow when i'm sure, over the noise
of a landing Jumbo i heard another roar! The roar of Michael Everett has
Rammy hit the winning runs to defeat Haslingden at the end of a frantic week
at Acre Bottom! The loss of our pro to Lancashire followed by the horrific
injury suffered by Michael Haslam against Hassy in Fridays 20/20 defeat at
Bentgate. No one was looking forward to meeting Hassy again. So to Sunday,
The sun shone and on winning the toss Haslingden chose to bat. At 70-1 with
Knowles an pro Bandy at the crease, a big score was on the cards. Richard
Rothwell then had a hand in running out Bandy and once Simon Read had
removed Dearden & Knowles, the Hassy innings collapsed like a pack of cards,
119 all out. Simon Read 5-48 and sub pro, Unsworth's Wayne Madsen 4-35. South
African Madsen then hit a quick fire 61 not out supported by Phil Hayes 54,
and the 12 points in the bag with 25 overs to spare.
Friday 6th June Haslingden 114-1 v
Ramsbottom 112 20/20
It Never Rains
It just pours! After the shock of losing Lou
Vincent to Lancashire this week, a weakened side travelled to Haslingden for
the 20/20. With skipper Simon Read a late withdrawal for family reasons,
Chris Read took the arm band and top scored after electing to bat. Sub pro,
Walshaw's ex Rammy star Jonathon Fielding was run out for just one. This
started a collapse which ended with Rammy all out for 112. Disaster was to
strike once more, a ball stuck by Hasy
pro Bandy hit Michael Haslam full in the face on his follow through. after
lengthy treatment on the field he was taken to hospital where he received 12
stitches to the injury. Haslingden then raced to victory inside 14 overs,
But Ramsbottom's main concerns where for the injured Michael Haslam.
Sunday 1st June Church DNB v Ramsbottom

Match Abandoned
Saturday 31st May Haslingden
254-9 v Ramsbottom 255-3 Worsley Cup
Cup Joy at Bentgate
Their is only one thing better than beating
Haslingden, that's beating Haslingden on there own ground! In what turned
out to be a classic local derby Ramsbottom came out on top with some style.
Haslingden batting first posted a challenging target of 252-9. It
could have been worse but for some tidy bowling first from Michael Haslam
who only conceded 34 from his ten overs. Simon Read 4-41 & Chris Read 1-34
kept the Hassy batsmen in check, ably supported behind the sticks by Richard
Hevingham with 4 stumping's. Some Rammy supporters thought 255 might
prove to many to chase, but fear not because chase we did. Openers Phil
Hayes & pro Lou Vincent set the ball rolling with a first wicket stand of
162 before Hayes departed on 66. David Bell then went for a duck, this
brought Chris Read to the crease. Chris with 21 shared a 57 run partnership
with Lou Vincent taking the total to 222. It was left to Keith Webb with 21
not out & star man Lou with 122 not out to secure a semi-final spot for the
first time in 3 years.
Friday 30th May Ramsbottom 148-3
v Rawtenstall 145-5 20/20
Lou Floors Rocky
Kiwi pro Lou Vincent is coming to terms with Lancashire League wickets. Last
nights match winning innings in our 20/20 against Rawtenstall was "class".
87 not out from 68 balls including 6 fours and 4 sixes. Having restricted
Rawtenstall to 145-5, which included the bizarre caught behind of their pro
Nathan McCullum. He hit the ball straight up and was stood at the other end
when Richard Hevingham took the catch! In Rammy's reply David Bell 23 &
Chris Read with 18 supported Lou Vincent's super innings. Lou's shot for
four to win the game was my favourite, all along the ground to "Poets
Corner" and still travelling when it reached the boundary.
Sunday 25th May Ramsbottom 106-6
v Bacup 105 Lancashire League
Chris Read sends Bacup packing
A superb all round performance by Chris Read
made sure this game went the way of the home side. Stuck into bat, Bacup
first of all came under attack from Toby McLean who fired out the top order
with his first 5 wicket haul in Rammy colours (5-42) at last we are seeing
what Toby can do. Then just has it looked like Bacup might start to pull
away with a 35 run 7th wicket partnership up stepped Chris Read with superb
figures of 3-21 from 13 overs, and Bacup were bowled out for 105. The
Ramsbottom reply looked like it might go the same way as Bacup's with only
34 runs on the board and 4 wickets down including pro Lou Vincent for 19.
But a match winning innings of 55
not out from man of the match Chris Read ensured the 12 pts were in the bag.
Sunday 18th May Ramsbottom 183-4 v
Rishton 182-5 Worsley Cup 1st Round
First win for 3 years in cup
A first cup win for 3 years since winning the
cup in 2005 saw a good solid performance from Simon Reads boys. Batting
first Rishton were restricted to 182-5. This proved no problem for the
Rammy openers, Phil Hayes & Lou Vincent putting on another half century
stand. Both departed in quick succession, but David Bell with a knock of 63
and skipper Simon Read revelling batting in the number 5 slot with 37 not
out saw Rammy through to the second round and a local derby clash at
Bentgate v Haslingden.

Sunday 11th May East Lancashire 124-5 v
Ramsbottom 125-1 Lancashire League
Victory at HQ in rain effected run chase
Sundays game at Alexandra Meadows was
the only game effected by rain. The rain arriving with East Lancs on 124-5
from 39.3 overs. By the time the showers stopped only 18 overs were
possible, this meaning Rammy had to opt to chase the full target of 124 for
victory. And Chase we did, Kiwi Lou Vincent hitting 57 not out & Phil Hayes
48 ensured a 9 wkt win inside 14 overs.
Saturday 10th May Ramsbottom 164 v Lowerhouse
165-4 Lancashire League
Another poor home performance
Another home defeat this time to Lowerhouse
means Sundays trip to HQ is now a must win match, And win we did. Saturdays
disappointing defeat at the hands of the previously winless Lowerhouse, was
certainly a poor performance. Lou Vincent 27 & Phil Hayes 24 shared a
opening stand of 58. But once the wickets fell they fell regularly. Only
Toby McLean with 31, his highest Rammy score helped stop the rot. He was
then controversially run out when he looked well home. Lowerhouse then
cruised to victory with 10 overs to spare for the loss of 4 wkts.

green wicket. And the steady fall of wkts continued
throughout the innings. But runs were hard to come by, Rammy bowled out for
just 69. Some
pessimists in the crowd were expecting being home within the hour after tea!
But some good tight bowling from Michael Haslam 0-14 & Toby McLean 1-8 and
then Lou Vincent 1-16 & Simon
Read 3-15. in between debutant Jack Walmsley, 1-14 took a wicket with his
second ball in Lancashire League cricket. And as Nelson got the jitters we
almost pulled of a great win! But alas
Nelson reached their target with just 2 wkts remaining.

set Rammy a target of 171-4 which Rammy matched, 171-4 with Chris Read 38
not out & both David Bell and Keith Webb getting into the
forty's.
